Silly Hats Make Life Better

Reconnect with your Natural Creativity
Young children do not shy away from craft tables, saying they are not creative. Adults would be well served by taking a chance to make something that never existed before: something silly. A Silly Hat is certainly not a perfect creation. It has no specifications to meet, no measurements, no need for symmetry or meaning.

Presented with a table of boring hats and a collection of sequins, ribbons, flowers and assorted other accessories, it is hard not to feel a little thrill of creativity. Numerous hats are waiting nearby for you to bring their full potential into being!
There is a wonderful part of the adult personality that remembers childlike wonder and fun. For some, this is about remembering times past with happiness, and for others it is about finally having a chance to enjoy the fun activities of childhood that never quite materialized when we were young.
This is a good time to engage the freedom found in knowing that one intention of the exercise is to be a little silly. Laughter is a liberation, and allows us to set aside the inhibitions that often stalk our behaviours.
When we plop a silly hat on our head, we bring ourselves back to things that really matter, like connection and shared experience.
Benefits of Mirth
Faced with the possibility of sharing laughter, be aware that there are many benefits to mirth. According to researchers Dr. Lee Berk and Dr. Stanley Tan, working at California’s Loma Linda University, laughter offers multiple positive advantages to human health.
According to research Laughter can lower blood pressure, and thus reduce risk of stroke and heart attack.
Laughter decreases stress hormones and increases immune cells and infection-fighting antibodies, thus improving your resistance to disease.
Laughter Works your abs, and all the muscles of your torso, just as some exercises do.
Laughter provides a cardio workout, getting your heart pumping as much as a slow walk would do.
Laughter Boosts T-cells, the cells in your immune system which help you fight off any incoming germs carrying colds or other sickness.
Laughter Triggers the release of endorphins, the feel-good chemicals, which, in some circumstances can provide temporary pain relief.
Laughter Produces a general sense of well-being, and when done at a silly-hat session, it helps to produce a wearable work of art.
 Benefits of Groups

Every one of us can benefit from the social and emotional support that comes from being a part of a group. Whether it is a team, a staff, or a congregation or family, studies show that being with other people can improve how we feel about ourselves and our ability to cope with life.
