Carve Out Some Time for Yourself

The word Meditation can describe dozens of different approaches to contemplation.
When I was growing up, Meditation suggested a person, usually a Buddhist monk, sitting for hours in the Lotus position, silent and unmoving.

Today I know that meditaion can be moving, as well as still; verbal or song-filled instead of silent; and is certainly not restricted to any religion or denomination.
There is no longer any idea that it takes hours or a major life ...

Mindful and Mellow

Mindful and Mellow

In 2011, September 12 was designated Mindfulness Day by Wisdom Publications. Now it is an annual event, and a variety of workshops and meditation groups are held around the world. The intent is to raise awareness among the general public about the value and benefit of mindfulness.

The word "mindfulness" is a translation of the term sati, which Buddhist teachings apply to the development of self-knowledge and wisdom on the path towards enlightenment and freedom fro...

Flowing the Knowing

Flowing the Knowing

Last week I attended an even where Les Brown was the keynote speaker.
I first saw Les Brown on a television membership drive about thirty years ago, and have been a fan ever since. I was thrilled and excited when I found out about his appearance in a place I could easily access.
Along with two friends, and a thousand other people, I sat through a parade of secondary speakers, some of whom were inspiring and motivating.  One or two others were selling systems and p...

Winter: Outside the Busy-Work and Rushing-ness

Winter: Outside the Busy-Work and Rushing-ness

Living as I do, on the edge of the beautiful and vast Gatineau Park in Western Quebec, the weather is not something I can ignore. Each season reminds me of the ever-moving cycle which is present in all aspects of the Living Layer of Mother Planet.
The first serious snowfall arrived here this week: clear notice that the cycle is progressing.  It is simplistic, though, to suggest that the coming months are made entirely of snow and storms. ...

Gifts from Elephants

Gifts from Elephants

This week I have completed some activities which began at Yule. I have indulged in spending a gift card and the items I chose are imbued with elephant energy.
I love elephants and I have kept only those which are most precious to me and were sufficiently meaningful to be relocated when I moved to Western Quebec from Nova Scotia.
I have added a Nepalese hand-made cushion and a small brass figure of Ganesha.
The Hindu deity Ganesha has an elephant head which mak...

2014: the key to the door to your future.

2014: the key to the door to your future.

Happy New Year. I am celebrating the new vibration that affects us all.
2+0+1+4=7, and Seven is the first Spiritual number to appear in the Number cycle (Nine is the second, and will be present in 2016)
The Number Cycle begins with the originating energy of One, that which has emerged from the Void, and has facilitated growth and development in the physical, emotional and mental planes. As the cycle turns to Seven, the Spiritual plane is ...

Where are you now?

Where are you now?

One of the most famous teachings of spiritual leader Ram Dass is the very simple instruction “Be Here, Now.” The idea that we need to learn such a straightforward truth seems astonishing. If being here, now, is a lesson we need, the underlying reality is, of necessity that we are not here and not in the Now.
“We” as individual souls, exist somewhere else, somewhen else, otherwise we wouldn’t need to learn to be Here, Now.
     In meditation and mindfulness ...

Moving Meditation; Prayerful Walking.

Moving Meditation and Prayerful Walking on the Labyrinth

People who are encountering the labyrinth for the first time often ask how to walk the path the ‘right way’.

My answer: “there is no wrong way”.

What you are called or led to do on a labyrinth is about you, not me. While events with many people sharing the path at the same time call for courtesy and consideration, solitary walks are as diverse as the people walking.

Phrases like ‘prayerful w...

Time Bends

Time Bends.

April 23rd is an important date in my life. In 2007 it was a day that changed my life.
On that day my partner of 17 years made the transition from this life to the next one, and I was faced with an unexpected and unclear future.
I remember that day, that week, in fact several weeks leading up to that day in minute detail. Some of the memories feel only a week old they are so bright and present in my mind.
At the same time the intervening six years have brought me ...
